В умовах вегетаційного досліду вивчали онтогенетичну динаміку інтенсивності газообміну підпрапорцевого й прапорцевого листків рослин пшениці м’якої озимої різних сортів. Виявлено, що максимальна інтенсивність фотосинтезу підпрапорцевого листка вища, ніж прапорцевого, але в період наливання зерна різко зменшується і провідну роль у постачанні колоса асимілятами починає відігравати прапорцевий листок. Між вмістом азоту в прапорцевому листку та інтенсивністю фотосинтезу протягом періоду колосіння—воскова стиглість зерна існує лінійний кореляційний зв’язок. Визначено нижню фізіологічну межу вмісту азоту в листку для фотосинтетичної асиміляції СО2, яка становить близько 0,7 % маси сухої речовини. Показано, що інтенсивність транспірації прапорцевого листка протягом періоду наливання зерна стабільніша за інтенсивність фотосинтезу, що пояснюється меншою залежністю продихового апарату від вмісту азоту в листку, який поступово знижується внаслідок реутилізації цього елемента до зерна.
